Why you're in this class:

Remember last year when we talked about the Great Commission? We talked about how Jesus wants us to share his love with the whole world! Part of doing that is communicating with people in their own language. Maybe you won’t be called to minister to Spanish-speakers, but learning a language teaches you lots about other cultures and even your own. Learning Spanish also helps you learn grammar, so it’s easier to take other languages, and makes English much easier! Maybe you won’t be fluent at the end of the semester, but you will understand Spanish and Central and South American culture better, and you will be able to communicate more coherently with Spanish speakers.

What I expect of you:

In order to achieve our goals this semester, you’ll need to come to class prepared (somewhere to take notes, a pen or pencil to write with, your Spanish workbook, your Spanish 1b book when we’re working with it, any homework, your brain), be focused and ready to learn every day, and leave the bad attitude at the door! I expect us to have fun, but we do have things to do, so you’ll have to be quiet when I ask you to. Remember the basic rules: Respect God, respect me, respect others!

How you get your grade:

Classwork/Homework 30%

Conversation and Pronunciation: 20%

Quizzes, Tests & Projects: 50%

Classwork and Homework are based on effort: if you do the assignment I ask you to do, and you do it to the best of your ability, you’ll get 5 points. If it’s only partially done, you’ll get some points, and if it’s not done, it’s a zero (I do NOT take late homework!) We'll have specific conversation and pronunciation quizzes, usually in partners. You’ll know ahead of time when they’ll be and what’s on them, so you can practice! Quizzes will sometimes be pop quizzes, sometimes I’ll tell you. They could be over vocabulary, grammar, conversation, or a memory verse. Tests will happen about every 3 weeks, and will always have listening and written sections. There will be an interview with me, at the end of the semester, when we’ll find out just how much Spanish you know!
