HOMEWORK AND ABSENCES:

Homework will be assigned regularly, and is due at the beginning of class.  I do not accept late homework.  While most homework will be graded for completion and effort, compositions and some homework assignments will be graded for accuracy.  Students are expected to participate in correcting their work in class when we go over the homework together, and failure to do so may result in a reduction of the day’s homework grade.

Daily assignments are usually worth 5 to 10 points.  Daily work should be turned in on time except in the case of an excused absence (as explained in the student handbook). Students are responsible for contacting the teacher concerning make-up work after any excused absence. In the case of a planned absence, including those inside the school building, please give me 2 days’ notice for every day that you will be absent so that I can prepare your assignment. Work missed due to a planned absence is due when you return to the classroom.

MAKE-UP WORK:

Short quizzes may be made up most mornings after 7:30 or immediately after school in the language lab (no appointment needed).  Longer quizzes and tests may be taken before or after school by appointment.

HELP SESSIONS:

I’m available before or after school for a short time almost every day, but it’s best to make an appointment so I can be sure to be in the lab when you need me!

TARDIES:

Arriving to class late without a pass is not acceptable. I follow the student/parent handbook’s guidelines for tardiness consequences, and I can tell you from experience, it’s just not worth it. Be on time. (Do you have any idea how humiliating it is to serve detention with your own mom?)

CLASS EXPECTATIONS:

OK, so the student-parent handbook has gajillions of rules for you to follow, but here are my specifics, the ones you won’t find in that handy-dandy notebook:

1. Be seated and ready to work when the bell rings.

2. Be attentive and follow directions the first time given.

3. Come to class prepared with whatever you need for the class.

4. Self-advocate! If you’re absent, e-mail a friend or me for missed assignments, ask for help, etc!

5. Work on a cooperative basis, especially when doing work in groups.

6. Turn off all electronic devices, remove hats, and pass all food and drink to the attendant. Please put your seat backs and tray tables in their full upright positions, in preparation for takeoff.

Let’s glorify God with our learning this year, and in all we do in this classroom!
